Azerbaijan proposes new social benefits for families with three or more children

A proposal has been submitted to the Milli Majlis to redefine large families in Azerbaijan to include those with three or more children. Currently, state social benefits are only available to families with at least six children, where women receive a monthly allowance of 140 manat per child starting after the sixth child reaches one year of age.

If the proposed changes are adopted, families with three or more children could qualify for additional social support mechanisms. The proposal also suggests reducing the retirement age by three, four, or five years depending on the number of children. Economists suggest that to effectively increase birth rates, a complex family policy is needed, including tax breaks, housing support, expanded preschool education, and utility discounts, rather than relying solely on monthly allowances.
