Azerbaijan seeks Armenian constitutional changes for final peace treaty

Hikmat Hajiyev, Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, stated at the CAMCA 2026 Regional Forum in Baku that a final peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia depends on a single remaining step: the amendment of the Armenian Constitution regarding territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Hajiyev noted that while a de facto peace currently exists in the South Caucasus, it is essential that this peace is formalized and does not remain merely on paper. He emphasized that Azerbaijan seeks to establish a regional architecture based on peace and stability that benefits both the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples.

Furthermore, Hajiyev mentioned that trade and business relations between the two nations are developing, and efforts are being made to strengthen trust. He underscored that achieving peace required strategic patience and leadership following the resolution of the long-standing conflict.
