Azerbaijan to attract low-cost airlines to boost tourism

Azerbaijan is planning to attract more tourists by introducing low-cost airlines to the country. This initiative is part of the State Program for the Development of Tourism for 2026–2030, which has been approved by the President.

Tourism expert Aziz Shiriyev noted that current high airfares and closed land borders have limited the tourist demographic primarily to high-income travelers. To massify tourism, expanding air transport options and increasing the number of affordable flights is a priority.

Direct flights from Slovakia to Azerbaijan via the low-cost carrier Wizz Air are expected to begin on October 10. This route is expected to facilitate travel from various European countries and provide Azerbaijani citizens with more affordable options for traveling to Europe, with round-trip tickets estimated to cost between $100 and $150.
