Azerbaijani scientists and NGOs appeal to Iranian President Pezeshkian

Scientists from the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and various Azerbaijani non-governmental organizations have issued an open letter to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The appeal focuses on the rights of the Azerbaijani population living in Iran, specifically requesting the implementation of their right to education in their native language.

The signatories noted that Pezeshkian’s previous interactions with Azerbaijani culture—including his visits to Shusha and Khankendi, his use of the Azerbaijani language, and his recitation of poetry—have fostered mutual trust and respect. They argue that while the President has demonstrated a deep appreciation for Azerbaijani linguistic and literary heritage, the legal right for Azerbaijanis in Iran to receive education in their mother tongue remains unfulfilled, causing significant concern among the community.
