Azerbaijani woman leaves Lahore under police escort following assault case
Diana Baghiyeva, a 20-year-old Azerbaijani national, has departed Lahore for Baku under official police escort. Her departure follows a high-profile gang-rape investigation in Punjab’s capital. Prior to her flight, Baghiyeva had reportedly expressed reluctance to leave Pakistan, at one point refusing to board a flight and alleging she was being sent home under false pretenses. Authorities coordinated her return following requests from the Azerbaijani embassy.
The investigation into the assault, which occurred at an apartment in a private housing society near Raiwind, has led to the arrest of three suspects, including a female accomplice. One male suspect remains at large. Police stated that forensic evidence, including DNA swabs, has been submitted to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency for analysis.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Baghiyeva’s departure will not halt the prosecution. Investigators intend to pursue strict judicial proceedings under the Pakistan Penal Code against all identified perpetrators as the case continues.
