Aziz Abdul disqualified from African Boxing Championships
Aziz Abdul, the 25-year-old grandson of former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, has been disqualified and stripped of his silver medal at the African Boxing Championships in Nairobi. The disqualification occurred during the men’s 90-kilogramme final after Abdul struck his opponent, Egypt’s Mohamed Hossen, on the back of the head following the final bell.
This marks the second major disqualification for Abdul in recent months. Earlier this year, he was disqualified from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for headbutting England’s Damar Thomas during the opening round.
Abdul, who competes under the name ‘Ringo’, has previously expressed a desire to avoid discussing the controversial legacy of his grandfather, who ruled Uganda from 1971 to 1979.
