Aziz Abdul, Idi Amin's grandson, to box for Uganda at Games

Aziz Abdul, a 25‑year‑old Ugandan boxer known as “Ringo,” is the grandson of former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. Abdul will compete in the super‑heavyweight (over 90 kg) category at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he faces 21‑year‑old English boxer Damar Thomas, the reigning European junior champion.

Abdul openly acknowledges his family background, saying his grandfather’s achievements in the ring inspire him. Idi Amin, who ruled Uganda from 1971 to 1979, was responsible for the deaths of roughly 500,000 people and was a national heavyweight boxing champion from 1951 to 1960 before seizing power. Abdul is proud of this legacy and aims to win the bout by knockout, echoing his grandfather’s former motto.
