Aziz Akhannouch defends party privacy following political leaks

Aziz Akhannouch, leader of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and Moroccan Prime Minister, has defended the sanctity of political party discussions following the leak of an audio recording involving Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the House of Representatives.

Speaking at a party meeting in Oujda, Akhannouch emphasized that political offices are constitutional institutions where debate must remain free and democratic. He argued that internal discussions should not be mistaken for official party stances and warned that leaks threaten the integrity of political practice. He defended Talbi Alami, stating his comments merely reflected a reality known to all Moroccans.

Regarding future governance, Akhannouch noted that while political paths involve winning elections and building alliances, the final appointment of the Prime Minister and cabinet members remains the prerogative of the King.

On the economic front, Akhannouch reported a growth rate of 5.3% and a significant decline in inflation, which dropped from previous highs to 0.3% this year. He also highlighted progress in the health and education sectors, including the expansion of the ‘Pioneer Schools’ program, and noted that the government has created hundreds of thousands of jobs despite the impact of prolonged drought on the agricultural sector.
