Aziz Akhannouch tours Al Haouz to review earthquake reconstruction
Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch conducted a two-day tour through the Al Haouz province, including Imlil, Amizmiz, and Tameslouht, to strengthen the presence of the Rassemblement National des Indépendants (RNI) party and engage with local residents.
During the tour, Akhannouch reviewed the progress of reconstruction efforts following the devastating earthquake that struck the region in September 2023. He reported that approximately 50,000 to 55,000 homes have been partially or fully rebuilt or rehabilitated. Additionally, he noted that over 60,000 families received monthly emergency financial support to assist with temporary housing costs.
In Amizmiz, the Prime Minister faced protests from local residents expressing frustration over delays in reconstruction projects and ongoing socio-economic fragility. Akhannouch responded by stating his intention to listen to citizens' concerns directly and promised further meetings with local stakeholders to address outstanding issues. He emphasized that future development will focus on regional growth and improving living conditions, supported by a long-term development program.
