Aziz Sancar: Nobel laureate honored with museum and academic recognitions

Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar has been honored with several tributes in Turkey. In Mardin’s Savur district, the house where Sancar was born and raised has been converted into the Aziz Sancar Museum. The opening ceremony, attended by Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, aims to showcase Sancar’s life and scientific achievements to inspire future generations.

In Mersin, Sancar delivered the opening lecture for the 2026-2027 academic year at Mersin University. During his presentation, he shared his scientific research and emphasized the necessity of hard work, stating, “You will work hard, you will put in effort. There is no other way.” Following the lecture, the university officially renamed its Advanced Technology Education Research and Application Center after him.

Additionally, the conference hall at Mersin City Hospital has been named in his honor. During a meeting with healthcare professionals, Sancar presented his latest research, titled ‘DNA Repair by Dual Incisions in the Three Kingdoms of Life,’ marking its first public sharing.
