Aziz Sancar discusses brain cancer research and Turkic cooperation

Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar recently participated in several academic events, including a lecture at Dicle University in Diyarbakır. During his presentation, titled ‘A lifetime for science, a lifetime for humanity’, Sancar shared updates on his research regarding brain cancer treatment. He noted that while significant progress has been made in mouse models using a combination of temozolomide (TMZ) and EdU, further studies are required to determine efficacy in humans.

At an opening ceremony for the academic year at Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University, Sancar called for increased scientific and technological cooperation among the five major Turkic states: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. He emphasized that collective effort is essential for these nations to compete globally in science, technology, and the economy.

Additionally, Sancar’s childhood home in the Savur district of Mardin has been converted into the Aziz Sancar Museum. Restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the museum serves as a space to showcase his life and scientific achievements, aiming to inspire future generations of scientists.
