Aziz Sancar's 80th birthday celebrated with scientific conference in Baku

An international scientific conference was held in Baku to celebrate the 80th birthday of Nobel laureate Aziz Sancar. The event was organized by the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (AMEA) through its Biology and Medical Sciences Department and the Science Dissemination Branch.

During the conference, AMEA President Prof. Dr. Isa Habibbeyli congratulated Sancar on his birthday and his receipt of the ‘Glory’ Order from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Habibbeyli highlighted Sancar’s groundbreaking discoveries in DNA repair and emphasized the importance of integrating academic and scientific institutions across Turkic states.

Participating via online connection, Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva for their recognition. Sancar noted that following the liberation of Karabakh, the primary goal for the Turkic world should be scientific production and advancing civilization. He stressed the need to support talented youth in scientific research and called for strengthened cooperation between universities and research centers in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and the TRNC.
