Aziz Thiam indicted on 17 charges in Côte d’Ivoire
Aziz Thiam, the former Minister of Transport and Vice-President of the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI-RDA), has been indicted on 17 charges. Following a hearing before the anti-terrorism section of the Abidjan Court of First Instance on October 23, 2026, Thiam was placed under judicial supervision.
The charges against him include terrorist acts, murder, participation in an insurrectionary movement, threats to state security, organizing prohibited demonstrations, destruction of public property, theft in a group, and illegal possession of weapons. These legal proceedings follow similar actions taken against other opposition figures from the PDCI-RDA and the PPA-CI.
Separately, Tidjane Thiam, the president of the PDCI, is facing legal challenges regarding the regularity of his election to the party leadership. While his new book, ‘Par-delà l’Afrique et le monde’, was released in mid-October, the Abidjan-Plateau Court of First Instance is currently reviewing appeals from party members contesting his presidency based on party statutes and his previous nationality.
