Azize Sibel Gönül, former AK Party MP, has passed away

Azize Sibel Gönül, a former AK Party Member of Parliament for Kocaeli and former General Headquarters Women's Branch President, has passed away. She died in a hospital in Istanbul while undergoing treatment for cancer.

Gönül, who was born in 1966, was a graduate of Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Architecture. Her political career included serving as a deputy during the 23rd and 24th terms in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, where she also chaired the Commission on Gender Equality. She was a founding member of the AK Party in Kocaeli.

Following her death, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik issued messages of condolence. Çelik described her as a 'very valuable companion' to the party. Her funeral services were scheduled to be held at the İzmit Fevziye Mosque before her burial in the İzmit City Cemetery.
