Azizulhasni Awang to reduce racing schedule for LA28 preparation

Malaysian track cycling star Datuk Azizulhasni Awang plans to reduce his competition frequency following the World Track Cycling Championships in Shanghai, scheduled for October 14 to 18. The 38-year-old athlete stated that a period of rest is necessary to facilitate physical and mental recovery as he begins a long-term preparation phase for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Azizulhasni noted that while the Shanghai championships serve as the first qualifying event for LA28, his subsequent focus will shift toward rebuilding his performance through foundational training, including strength and fitness work in the gym. He expressed a desire to avoid rushing his recovery to ensure he reaches peak condition over the next one and a half to two years.

The announcement follows a successful season for the former keirin world champion, who recently secured three gold medals, including a victory at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games at the Izu Velodrome.
