Azmatullah Omarzai reprimanded by ICC for dissent against Ireland

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a reprimand and one demerit point to Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident occurred during the second ODI against Ireland in Bready.

Omarzai was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of Article 2.8, which concerns showing visible dissent toward an on-field official’s decision. The violation took place in the 41st over of Afghanistan’s innings after Omarzai was dismissed. He remained at the crease for a period, expressing his frustration through gestures directed at the umpires.

The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Gareth Morrison and Roly Black, along with third umpire Johnny Kennedy and fourth umpire George Brolly. Omarzai admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Dean Cosker, resolving the matter without a formal hearing. This marks his first disciplinary offense in 24 months.

In the match itself, Afghanistan secured a 92-run victory over Ireland, posting 299 for eight in a rain-affected contest. Rashid Khan led the bowling effort with six wickets, helping Afghanistan take the lead in the five-match series.
