Global electrical grid disruptions affect industries and infrastructure
Various regions across Latin America and Europe are experiencing electrical service disruptions due to maintenance, weather, and grid instability.
In Ecuador, the government has implemented temporary disconnections for high-voltage and certain medium-voltage industries to protect the national grid. This measure responds to low hydrological levels in hydroelectric plants and difficulties supplying fuel to thermal generation barges due to sea conditions.
In Peru, ENOSA has scheduled power suspensions in Talara and Sechura to perform preventive maintenance ahead of the El Niño phenomenon. Additionally, in the Ayacucho region, Electrocentro announced a large-scale outage affecting parts of Huancavelica, Cusco, and Apurímac for transmission line maintenance.
In Chile, electrical instability caused by heavy rains forced the temporary shutdown of medical imaging equipment, including a CT scanner and MRI, at the Hospital Regional Ernesto Torres Galdames in Iquique. Meanwhile, Enel has scheduled outages in Maipú.
In Argentina, EDEA is conducting maintenance in Lobería and has reported storm-related outages in Mar del Plata affecting several neighborhoods. In Spain, an excavator damaged an underground line in Barcelona, causing a two-hour outage at the Boquería Market.
In Colombia, ENEL is performing maintenance in Bogotá, resulting in temporary service suspensions in several localities.
