Azores archipelago offers affordable volcanic landscapes

The Azores, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, is being highlighted as a budget-friendly alternative to Hawaii, often referred to as “Europe’s Hawaii.” The group consists of nine volcanic islands known for crater lakes, hot springs, black sand beaches, and lush landscapes.

São Miguel, the largest island, is a primary destination featuring the Sete Cidades lakes, which are recognized as one of Portugal’s seven natural wonders. Other notable locations include Vila Franca do Campo, famous for its natural basin formed in an ancient volcanic crater.

Travelers note the destination offers significant cost advantages; for example, a beer can cost approximately 11 kroner, and local restaurant meals typically range between 75 and 110 kroner. The archipelago is also highly accessible, with a flight from Copenhagen taking just over four hours.
