Azores celebrate 50 years of autonomy with cultural events

The Azores are marking the 50th anniversary of their constitutional autonomy through various cultural and political events. In Fall River, Massachusetts, José Manuel Bolieiro, President of the Government of the Azores, participated in the Great Festivities of the Holy Spirit to honor the Azorean diaspora and its influence on the region's social and economic development.

In Cape Verde, approximately 60 artists from the Azores and Cape Verde will perform 'Musical Encounter Azores-Cape Verde - 50 Years, Two Archipelagos, One Sea' at the National Assembly in Praia on September 5th. The program celebrates the 50th anniversaries of both Azorean autonomy and Cape Verdean independence, highlighting the maritime and cultural ties between the two archipelagos.

Additionally, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembly of the Republic, is visiting the Azores to commemorate the 50 years of autonomy. His itinerary includes visits to Pico and Faial to discuss regional challenges such as island mobility, healthcare costs, and population aging.
