Azores Government invests in Corvo island water and agriculture
The Azores Government has announced a total investment of 132,000 euros to improve water availability and food autonomy on the island of Corvo. The initiative focuses on strengthening the sustainability and resilience of the local agricultural sector.
A 55,000-euro investment, secured by the Regional Institute for Agricultural Development (IROA) through a protocol with the Environmental Fund, will fund the construction of a water supply reservoir in Cantinho. Additionally, 77,000 euros will be allocated to install two greenhouses for horticultural production under the European LIFE IP AGRILOOP project.
The project includes the creation of a demonstration area equipped with a composter and drip irrigation system to promote efficient water use and green waste valorization. It also features a demonstration field for organic agriculture to promote sustainable production practices and train local producers.
