Azores Marine Park marks 15 years with new visual identity
The Azores Government is marking the 15th anniversary of the legislation that established the Azores Marine Park (PMA). To commemorate this milestone and increase public awareness of the protected areas, a new visual identity has been introduced.
Currently, the park's protected marine areas cover 30% of the waters surrounding the Azores. Following the Blue Azores program and a revision of the Azores Network of Marine Protected Areas (RAMPA), new legislation set to take effect in January 2026 will expand the park to include approximately 287,000 square kilometers of oceanic protected areas.
Regional Secretary for the Sea and Fisheries, Mário Rui Pinho, stated that the park plays a fundamental role in conserving the region's natural heritage and reflects a commitment to scientific knowledge and sustainable resource management.
