Azores Parliament approves independent living support for people with disabilities

The Legislative Assembly of the Azores has unanimously approved the Independent Living Support Model (MAVI). This initiative, proposed by the Chega party, aims to increase autonomy for people with disabilities.

To implement MAVI, a support center will be established, funded by the regional budget but managed by private entities, including non-profits. The center will develop personalized support plans for beneficiaries, identifying specific needs and the required hours for personal assistants.

Mónica Seidi, the Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, noted that there are approximately 4,800 people in the Azores over the age of 14 with disability certificates and an incapacity rate exceeding 60% who could benefit. She committed to including 200,000 euros in the 2027 regional budget proposal to fund a pilot project in this area.
