Azores regional government manages energy, digital, and tourism policy updates

The Regional Government of the Azores is addressing several administrative and infrastructural developments. Regarding energy, the government reported that the Santa Maria wind farm is awaiting technical integration into the public electricity system (SEPA) following regulatory validation in August. Officials expect the farm to be connected to the grid by September or October, with commercial operation starting in the final quarter of the year. This project is expected to increase the island's renewable energy share to approximately 27%.

In the digital sector, the Regional Directorate of Communications and Digital Transition has launched a training initiative to enhance cybersecurity among public administration employees. Vice-President Artur Lima stated that the program aims to build resilience against threats like phishing and malware through practical, audiovisual-based learning and simulated phishing campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Socialist Party (PS) has accused the regional government of failing to uphold a parliamentary decision from February regarding tourism support. The PS claims that several iconic festivals and cultural events across the islands have faced significant funding cuts or a total absence of government support, which they argue undermines regional tourism promotion.
