Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant hit in Ukrainian strike
A Ukrainian strike on the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in Russia's Rostov region has caused significant damage to key military production facilities. The operation, conducted on the night of September 25-26, involved the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Ukrainian Navy using Neptune cruise missiles and several types of jet-powered missile drones.
Satellite imagery and official reports indicate that at least five production buildings were hit, including the foundry, optical workshop, assembly area, electroplating shop, and the printed circuit board section. The facility, which belongs to the Tactical Missiles Corporation, is a critical node in the Russian military-industrial complex.
Analysis by Dallas Analytics reveals the plant is integrated into the supply chains for at least seven major Russian missile programs, including the Kh-101 cruise missile, the R-37M air-to-air missile, and the Oreschnik system. Specifically, the plant produces essential components for the Kh-101, such as navigation lidar and flight automation blocks. Internal documents also suggest that the Russian Aerospace Forces have sought to increase production volumes for R-37M components starting in 2026.
