Aztec Network Exploit Funds Move 500 ETH to Tornado Cash
A hacker who exploited the Aztec Network private roll‑up bridge in June 2026 has transferred a total of 500 ETH to the Tornado Cash mixer, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield. The latest deposit of 300 ETH, worth about $572,100, was made on August 8, bringing the cumulative amount moved to the mixer to 500 ETH out of the 909 ETH stolen in the original attack.
The transfers have been carried out in small, irregular batches over more than a month, a strategy that differs from the rapid, large‑scale laundering seen in other crypto thefts. PeckShield and other analysts note that the timing and pattern of the deposits make it harder to obscure the funds, allowing firms such as TRM Labs to trace the money through behavioral analysis and off‑ramp identification. The Aztec exploit resulted in roughly $2.16 million in losses, including ETH, DAI, and other assets.
