Azua: Man allegedly kills partner before committing suicide
A man allegedly killed his partner and then took his own life during the early hours of Sunday, November 1, in the municipality of Las Yayas de Viajama, Azua province.
The victim has been identified as Pamela Alcántara (also referred to as Yajaira, known as Mamela), while the alleged aggressor was identified as Rafael Pereyra. Preliminary reports suggest the incident occurred during an argument, during which Pereyra allegedly shot Alcántara several times with a firearm before using the same weapon to commit suicide.
National Police, members of the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim), the Public Ministry, and forensic doctors attended the scene to recover the bodies and initiate an investigation. Authorities have not yet clarified the cause of the dispute or whether there was a history of violence between the couple.
This incident follows reports from the Vida Sin Violencia Foundation, which noted that 74 feminicides had been recorded in the country as of October 25, representing an increase compared to the previous period.
