Azul adds 34,000 seats to João Pessoa flights, boosting tourism

Azul Viagens, the official tour operator of Azul Airlines, announced on 23 May an increase of 34,000 seats to serve João Pessoa, Brazil. The additional capacity will be provided from airports in Minas Gerais and São Paulo, with 7,000 seats allocated to the low‑season period (August‑December) and 27,000 seats for the high‑season period starting January 2027.

The announcement was made by Fernanda Paranhos, product manager for Azul Viagens, during the Nordestur tourism summit. She highlighted a rise of more than 20 % in sales of travel packages to the capital of Paraíba in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. Tourism secretary Daniel Rodrigues said the extra flights reinforce João Pessoa’s status as a top domestic destination, noting that the airport handled 978,465 passengers in the first half of 2026 – an increase of 9.5 % and close to the one‑million mark.

Local authorities credited the growth to ongoing promotional efforts, improvements in the historic centre, increased security presence and training programmes for tourism workers.
