Rumors regarding a potential name change for the Chilean football club Universidad de Chile have surfaced following ongoing tensions between the club's concessionaire, Azul Azul, and the university. Reports suggested that Azul Azul might adopt the name ‘Leones’ to maintain its identity in the event of a definitive break with the academic institution.

Azul Azul has issued a firm denial of these reports, stating that the possibility of a name change has “never, not even in jest, been discussed in our board.”

Club legend Héctor Hoffens criticized the rumors, describing the idea of changing the name as “stupid” and asserting that the university remains the ultimate authority over the club's identity. Hoffens emphasized that the club's history is tied to the university and warned that such a move would be met with intense backlash from supporters.
