Azul investigates aircraft takeoff incident at Congonhas Airport

Azul has launched an internal investigation following an incident involving an Embraer E195-E2 aircraft at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo. On Sunday, October 11, flight AD4797, bound for Belo Horizonte, traveled a significant portion of the runway before successfully taking flight.

The aircraft flew at a low altitude over the Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS), a safety feature installed at the end of the runway to prevent planes from overshooting the landing area. Under normal circumstances, the aircraft should have been airborne before reaching the EMAS zone.

In a statement, Azul emphasized that it operates according to national and international safety standards. The EMAS technology, which uses deformable concrete blocks to brake aircraft in emergencies, has been installed at Congonhas since 2022, making it the first airport in Latin America to utilize the system.
