B236 highway bridge projects face delays and progress in North Rhine-Westphalia
Infrastructure projects on the B236 federal highway in North Rhine-Westphalia are facing different timelines due to technical and administrative challenges.
In Plettenberg-Pasel, the renovation of the bridge over the B236 and the Ruhr-Sieg railway line has stalled. DB InfraGO has not yet released the necessary grounding for the scaffolding, causing a work stoppage. Consequently, the completion date has been pushed back to at least December 2026, forcing residents to use a six-kilometer detour.
In contrast, a temporary bridge project in Altena is proceeding according to schedule. The 35-meter-long steel bridge has been mounted using a 500-ton crane. Following the completion of remaining works, including sidewalk attachments and road connections, traffic is expected to resume on the B236 in both directions by the end of November.
