B2U Storage Solutions launches second-life battery project in Texas

B2U Storage Solutions has announced that its 28-MWh Bexar Martinez battery energy storage installation near San Antonio has reached commercial operations. This marks the company’s second “second-life” energy storage project within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market.

The installation is built entirely from repurposed electric vehicle batteries. B2U previously entered a strategic supply agreement with Waymo in June 2026 to repurpose batteries from Waymo’s fleet as they age out of service. The company reports having at least 100 MWh of operational second-life battery installations.

Despite a slowdown in electric vehicle sales following the expiration of federal purchase credits, CEO Freeman Hall stated that the company has secured significant volumes of battery capacity suitable for repurposing. B2U is currently working on several additional projects in the ERCOT market that could begin providing grid services by 2027.
