B3 Arch Bridge construction inspected in Georgia
During the 4th International Road Federation (IRF) Europe and Central Asia Regional Congress in Tbilisi, a delegation visited the construction site of the B3 Arch Bridge in Georgia. The bridge is a critical component of the North-South Corridor Highway project on the Kvesheti–Kobi section.
Constructed by China Railway 23rd Bureau Group Co., Ltd., the bridge is located in a deep valley of the Caucasus Mountains. It features a total length of 437.875 meters and a main arch net span of 286 meters. Once completed, it is expected to be the largest-span reinforced concrete arch bridge in the Caucasus region.
The project faces extreme environmental conditions, including high-intensity seismic zones, severe cold reaching -20°C, heavy snow accumulation, and strong winds. The construction utilizes a deck-type reinforced concrete separated twin-rib box arch structure built via the cantilever casting method.
