Banco de Brasília revises Pix fraud loss to R$ 53.1 million

The Banco de Brasília (BRB) has revised the estimated loss from a cyberattack on the BRBJUS system to R$ 53.1 million. The incident involved 520 unauthorized Pix transfers from judicial accounts belonging to the Court of Justice of Bahia (TJBA) over a four-hour period on September 17.

BRB has notified the Central Bank and activated the Pix return mechanism, committing to fully restore the funds to the judicial accounts. There is an ongoing dispute between BRB and TJBA regarding the technical origin of the failure, with the court asserting the incident occurred within BRB's exclusive technological environment.

As a preventive measure, the system has been restored with temporary daily transaction limits to ensure security during the investigation.
