B5 Plus pays GH¢400m in taxes to Ghana Revenue Authority
B5 Plus Company Limited, an iron and steel manufacturer, has presented a GH¢400 million tax cheque to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). Dr Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, Commissioner of the GRA’s Domestic Tax Revenue Division, commended the company for its compliance, noting that such contributions fund essential public services like roads, schools, and hospitals.
During the engagement, B5 Plus Chairman Mukesh Thakwani called on the Ghanaian government to implement bans or restrictions on imports of goods that can be produced locally. Thakwani argued that current manufacturing capacity utilization in some sectors is below 50 percent and that supporting domestic industry would create jobs, expand exports to the West African market, and reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves. He also raised concerns regarding tax treatments and exemptions granted to certain imported goods that compete with local manufacturers.
