B6 highway closed for two hours following vehicle fire

A vehicle fire on the B6 federal highway near Schneeren caused a two-hour full closure of the road on Tuesday morning. The incident involved a VW Touran that caught fire around 5:20 AM in the direction of Hannover, between Schneeren and Meinkingsburg.

Both occupants of the vehicle managed to exit safely and were uninjured. Firefighters from Bolsehle, Husum, and Groß Varlingen responded to the scene, utilizing approximately 2,500 liters of water and foam to combat the blaze. Despite their efforts, the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Emergency responders reported significant difficulties reaching the site because commuters failed to form an adequate emergency lane (Rettungsgasse). Firefighters had to walk ahead of the first extinguishing vehicle to manually direct motorists to make space. The closure lasted until approximately 7:00 AM, causing substantial delays during the morning rush hour. Officials noted that this marks the fifth vehicle fire on this specific section of the B6 within the last ten months.
