Baanbrekers 2026 awards recognize multimodal transport achievements
The Baanbrekers 2026 awards, presented by Multimodaal Vlaanderen (an initiative of VIL), have honored companies and professionals for advancing multimodal freight transport.
DP World Multimodal Solutions and H. Essers received the award for Breakthrough Logistic Service Providers for their rail connection between Zeebrugge and Barcelona. By bundling goods flows through two return trips per week, the project is estimated to avoid approximately 10.55 million truck kilometers annually.
Ghent Aggregates was named Breakthrough Shipper for utilizing rail to transport crushed stone from southern France to Ghent. This method is estimated to prevent between 560 and 600 long-distance truck trips per year, with a single train replacing 56 truck trips over nearly 700 kilometers.
Luc Driessen, CEO of Move Intermodal, was named Multimodal Ambassador 2026 in recognition of his 35-year commitment to intermodal solutions. In 2025, Move Intermodal completed over 63,000 transports, reporting a CO2 saving of approximately 110,000 tons.
