Baarn Sunflower Painting Competition Attracts Artists

Around 20,000 organically grown sunflowers are blooming behind the Rijkskwekerij on the grounds of Bomencentrum Nederland in Baarn, Netherlands. On Sunday 9 August, the centre will host a painting competition inviting artists to create works inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower style. Participants may bring their own materials, choose any canvas size and have until 16 August to submit entries to the Bomencentrum. A jury comprising former Baarn mayor and artist Marie‑Rose Wolterink, former councilor Mark Veldhuizen, art historian Maya Meijer‑Bergmans and filmmaker Jos Looise will judge the submissions, with winners to be honoured later in the Jardin d’Hiverre building. The event is free to the public, with free sunflower bouquets offered to visitors.
