Baba Alino residents face electricity outages following municipal orders

Dozens of families in the disputed Baba Alino complex near Varna, Bulgaria, have been left without electricity for nearly 24 hours. While residents claim the outage affects many homes, the electricity distributor, ERP Sever, stated that power was only disconnected for five specific buildings following an order from the Mayor of Varna.

The municipality explained that construction control officials issued orders to terminate electricity and water access to these five properties in 2025, citing violations of the Territory Management Act. These orders are currently being appealed. The municipality further noted that no construction permits or infrastructure projects for electricity or water were approved for the site.

Residents have expressed significant distress, reporting that they were not properly notified of the outage and fear the loss of water access next. Some inhabitants claim they have invested large sums into their homes and argue that the utility cuts are a form of psychological pressure intended to force them out of the complex.
