Babad Besuki manuscript designated as National Collective Memory

The National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI) has officially designated the Babad Besuki ancient manuscript from Situbondo Regency, East Java, as a National Collective Memory (IKON) for 2026. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the National Library building in Jakarta, attended by Situbondo Regent Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo.

Babad Besuki is an ancient text that records the historical journey of the Besuki Raya region, including key figures and events that shaped the area. Regent Prayogo noted that this designation elevates the manuscript from a local historical heritage to an integral part of Indonesia's national collective memory. He expressed hope that this recognition would serve as a momentum for the development of the Besuki Raya area in western Situbondo.
