Babatunde Fashola calls for radical approach to Nigeria's insecurity

Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has called for a radical approach to addressing insecurity in Nigeria, arguing that increasing the number of security personnel alone is insufficient.

Speaking at the 12th Triennial National Conference of Jama’at-ul Islamiyya of Nigeria in Lagos, Fashola emphasized the need to restore respect for law and order. He stated that the country must address institutional, social, and behavioral factors, urging citizens to embrace the principle that no individual is above the law, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.

Fashola also highlighted the importance of the values being transmitted to younger generations regarding obedience to legitimate authority. He cautioned that misconduct by security officers can undermine public confidence in the state, noting that the uniform represents government authority and requires high levels of responsibility.
