Babcock and Ark Robotics partner on UK uncrewed ground vehicles

Babcock International Group and Estonian defense startup Ark Robotics have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the manufacturing of uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) in the United Kingdom. The partnership aims to bring autonomous platforms, such as the Ark Robotics A1—which has seen frontline use in Ukraine—to British and allied forces.

The collaboration will focus on UK-based manufacturing, systems integration, and payload integration. Additionally, the companies intend to develop comprehensive support solutions, including training, logistics, infrastructure, and operational support. They are also exploring the Frontier system, which enables autonomous navigation and allows a single operator to manage multiple vehicles simultaneously.

UGVs are increasingly utilized for frontline tasks such as re-supplying ammunition and equipment, laying smokescreens, and evacuating casualties. The A1 model features a top speed of 40kph, a 20km range per charge, and a 15kg payload capacity.
