Babcock and BAE Systems launch Apprenticeship Talent Bridge

Babcock and BAE Systems have launched the Apprenticeship Talent Bridge, an initiative designed to connect apprenticeship applicants with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the defence supply chain. The program aims to ensure that high-quality candidates who are not selected by major defence employers can still find career pathways within the sector through smaller firms.

Supported by the UK government and the 5% Club, the initiative addresses skills shortages in the manufacturing sector. The project is currently in a pilot phase, with Babcock supporting a South West pilot covering Devonport, and BAE Systems supporting a North West pilot covering Barrow-in-Furness and the Preston area. Successful matching of apprentices to SMEs is scheduled to begin in April 2027, with sign-ups opening this month.
