Babcock Canada Wins Six-Year Extension for Victoria Submarine Support

The Canadian federal government awarded Babcock Canada a six‑year extension on the in‑service support contract for the Royal Canadian Navy’s four Victoria‑class submarines. The contract, valued at about C$1.1 billion, includes options to continue support through the vessels’ end‑of‑life as Canada prepares to replace them.

The Victoria‑class fleet, in service since the 1990s, is slated for retirement in the mid‑2030s, with new submarines to be built by Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems under the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project. Babcock, the sustainment partner for more than 18 years, said the extension sustains roughly 1,500 jobs, involves over 450 Canadian suppliers, and has contributed about C$3.2 billion to the national GDP since 2008. CEO Tony March said the deal “supports the men and women of the Royal Canadian Navy… and will drive enhanced outcomes for the existing Victoria‑class fleet.”
