Babcock delivers AI-powered Nomad platform to UK Ministry of Defence
Babcock has delivered its AI-powered signal intelligence platform, Nomad, to the UK Ministry of Defence to address an urgent operational requirement for the British Armed Forces. Designed for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, the platform aims to enhance situational awareness for personnel operating in contested or dangerous environments.
Nomad functions at the tactical edge, processing data near the point of interception to reduce the time required to send information to Command and Control centers. The system can clean, transcribe, translate, and analyze enemy voice and text communications in real time. This capability is intended to reduce the reliance on deployed linguists and provide frontline operators with immediate intelligence regarding target positions, movements, and capabilities.
To ensure reliability in environments where communications may be blocked or degraded by enemy jamming, Nomad operates autonomously without the need for external cloud services or outside AI. Louise Atkinson, Chief Executive of Babcock’s Land and Mission Systems, stated that the platform demonstrates the company’s ability to harness AI-driven technologies to support frontline capabilities and deliver mission advantage.
