Babcock International maintains guidance on strong defence demand

Babcock International Group has maintained its full-year guidance and medium-term outlook, reporting that trading during the first five months of its financial year has met expectations. The FTSE 100 company cited robust demand across its core defence markets, specifically highlighting strong performance in the nuclear and aviation sectors.

Chief Executive Harry Holt, who assumed the role on July 31, noted that the group has entered the year with good momentum. The company is positioned to benefit from increased UK military spending, including the government’s £298 billion Defence Investment Plan and major naval infrastructure programmes like Royal Oak.

Recent contract developments include a CAD$1.2 billion (£600 million) six-year extension to support the Royal Canadian Navy’s Victoria Class submarines and selection as the preferred bidder for an eight-year French Air Force combat training contract. To manage its financial profile, the company launched a £200 million share buyback in July and issued a £250 million six-year sterling bond.
