Babeș-Bolyai University dormitory fire in Cluj-Napoca

A fire broke out in a fifth-floor room of dormitory number 17 in the Hașdeu student quarter of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca during the night between Saturday and Sunday. Approximately 200 students were in the building at the time; while most evacuated independently, emergency services rescued 13 additional students from the premises.

Emergency responders, including fire brigades and SMURD medical units, attended the scene. Although three students required oxygen, no hospitalizations were necessary. The university has established a crisis committee to manage the situation and provide support. Affected students have been temporarily relocated to dormitory number 16, and the university has pledged continued assistance for those whose rooms are rendered unusable.

The Cluj-Napoca Hungarian Student Union (KMDSZ) noted that the fire caused significant material damage to the affected rooms. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blaze.
