Babina Gora Waste Management Center begins regular operations

The Babina Gora Waste Management Center has officially begun regular operations, receiving mixed municipal and non-hazardous waste from Karlovac County, as well as parts of Lika-Senj and Sisak-Moslavina counties. This marks a significant shift in waste management for the region, as Babina Gora is the first center of its kind in mainland Croatia.

To ensure compliance, every shipment arriving at the center will be inspected. Marija Tufeković, director of KODOS, stated that shipments not matching their declarations will be returned to the sender. In Karlovac, the city will now pay 150 euros per ton for the disposal of mixed municipal waste, a cost that was previously avoided because the city owned the Ilovac landfill. Consequently, local officials are urging citizens to increase waste separation to reduce disposal costs.
