Babu Owino denies rift with Edwin Sifuna amid political speculation
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has denied allegations of a rift with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following a public confrontation at a Linda Mwananchi rally in Nairobi. The tension arose after Owino cautioned political commentator Abbie Zuena against “mischief” during a rally at Jacaranda Grounds, despite Zuena having previously suggested a political structure where Sifuna would run for president while Owino and James Orengo held senior leadership roles.
Addressing the press, Owino stated there is no conflict of interest between the two leaders, noting that they are pursuing different offices: Sifuna is positioning for the presidency, while Owino is seeking the Nairobi governorship in 2027. Owino dismissed claims of jealousy or sabotage, asserting that he has no reason to be at loggerheads with Sifuna.
Owino further accused the government of attempting to engineer perceptions of division within the Linda Mwananchi movement to weaken its growing popularity. He emphasized the need for unity within the movement as it moves toward establishing a formal political party to contest the upcoming elections.
