Babunagari calls for repentance from Saad Kandhlawi
Shah Muhibullah Babunagari, the leader of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, has called on Indian cleric Saad Kandhlawi to repent for allegedly making offensive remarks regarding the Prophet and companions, as well as misinterpreting the Quran.
Speaking at a conference in Dhaka, Babunagari claimed that Kandhlawi has refused to correct his statements despite efforts from scholars at Darul Uloom Deoband. He demanded that Kandhlawi be barred from entering Bangladesh until he undergoes sincere repentance and adheres to the Shura system.
Furthermore, Babunagari accused followers of Kandhlawi of involvement in killings during the Bishwa Ijtema in Tongi in 2018 and 2024. He called for these incidents to be investigated under anti-terrorism laws and requested that future Ijtema events and the activities of the Kakrail Markaz be placed under the supervision of religious scholars.
