Baby boy born at sea aboard MV Ma Lisha

A passenger, Pauline Cirus, safely delivered a baby boy while traveling aboard the MV Ma Lisha. The vessel was navigating open waters approximately 22.22 nautical miles off Shell Beach, en route to Kumaka in Guyana's North West District, when Cirus began experiencing contractions around 01:10h.

The boat captain issued a distress signal to request assistance from the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard. Before help arrived, three female passengers, Daphne Williams, Martina Valenzuela, and Lorna Joseph Beharry, assisted with the delivery. The baby boy was born at 01:51h with the support of the crew and passengers.

A Coast Guard team arrived at approximately 06:20h and transferred Cirus, her newborn, and two passengers to Mabaruma Hospital for postnatal care. The Ministry of Public Works clarified that the distress call was strictly for medical support and not due to any vessel malfunction or physical fault with the ship.
